This thing buzzes like a mad bastard

Every time the car is started. It goes for about a minute and a half and then stops.

    1) What is it?
    2) Why is it buzzing like that?
    3) Is it a big deal, or just a buzzing sound that can be safely ignored?

Well duh. It's an air compressor. Does your ass end sit on the ground? Does it still have air suspension in the back?

It's pretty much level front to back. As far as I know the suspension is stock. And it didn't do this last time I borrowed it a few months ago.

Also since this is a suspension part I guess I should delete this thread or maybe someone can move it.

THAT IS THE LOAD LEVELING compressor. it turns on every time you start the car so it holds pressure as you drive.

it's the load leveling compressor it turns on everytime you start the car to ensure you have the right amount of air at all times during driving.

Can it be lubricated to reduce the noise? That looks a bit like a grease fitting on the left part.

That's normal, they make noise, just deal with it.

Can't hurt to grease it, if that's an actual grease fitting and not a shrader valve. Could have a broken line somewhere that's making it run constantly.

If it only goes for a minute or so don't worry about it.

As long as it's not a sign of impending suspension collapse, I am fine with this solution.

Me thinks it's a shrader valve.

Nope, and they generally don't collapse like that. They'll develop a slow leak and sag when it's shut off, then sag more and more...will usually still work fine when the compressor runs though. Eventually they won't hold air at all, but I don't think they'll blow out or anything unless you do some pretty crazy driving.

It's a shrader valve. Oh well. At least I can safely ignore the noise.
