    overheating ?

my 87 302 cv wag now is overheating i have a 3core rad,195t,water pump, anti freeze all new. my flex a light fan which cooled it just fine till now. it over heats so i set fan for manual set up so i can have it on all the time now and it still gets up there way past normal allmost past 230* it normally would be at 200-210* what would cause this to happen and what should i fix first. thanks

stuck open t-stat (doesn't give the coolant enough time to cool off - my dad had this problem with his F150)... crapped water pump impellers... crap caught between the condenser and radiator. I'd clean the radiator fins first off. I've had to do that with a few cars. The dust/dirt buildup on them was something obnoxious... and you couldn't really see it from looking at the condenser either.

clogged heater core - have you tried bypassing it or flushing it out?

          thermostat stuck closed?

bad hoses (upper, lower, heater, bypass...if they're not new i would suspect them)

are you losing coolant? it's either burning it, leaking it, or it's blocked up somewhere.

Maybe there is something wrong with the fan? Do you have enough voltage there?

Could be an issue with the motor, if the wiring hasn;t been touched. All the other cooling system items seem to be in order.

its the motor control box on the fan. it wasnt working and it would cycle but cut off real quick and i noticed it was pushing the air into the rad instead of pulling the air. so i have to take control box off completely and wire it so it pulls air thanks for thre help

                    DOH!

I managed to pull that stunt when I first wired up the fans on my Mark. having the fans blow in the correct direction helps loads.

You will get the most efficient cooling from a STOCK clutch fan. There is a possibility your flex fan is flexier (therefore moving less air). Are you checking that fan for cracked blades regularily?

                      Alex.

I think he is referring to flex-a-lite brand electric fan, Alex

....and 230 degrees is NOT overheating, However it is on the high side of normal.

Sounds like the thermostat for the controller might be set wrong, and the wiring needs to be switched on the fan.
