      should i also be thinking about new lifters and pushrods or do you figure i ought to reuse the stockers?

        Reuse the stock lifters but examine your rocker arms in the little cup that the pushrod sits. You may need new rockers and pushrods.

          I agree with the lifters, only if they can be compressed (After the pressure in the lifters has gone down, see if the center can be pushed down), if yes, then reuse them, if not replace them. You don't have any valvetrain ticking right?

            correct! the only noise is lopo piston slap.

              There is no piston slap. And if there is, an HO conversion will not fix it lol.

                Whatever the hell it's called, it's the lopo noise. I don't know the proper term but I've been told by some on here that's what it's called.



                All I'm trying to fix here is an oil leak from the front of the motor and hopefully replace stock parts with other slightly better stock parts.

                  the lopo diesel clatter is what I call it. my 88 does it like it's going outta style. great oil pressure though... so meh.

                    That's what I described it as and someone told me it was piston slap IIRC. My oil pressure is just dandy, as well.....so meh

                      its usually the main bearings being wiped out. That clattering noise is the rods and/or crankshaft banging around before the oil pump makes enough pressure to float them apart. The noise tends to come back when the motor is hot because the oil thins out. Piston slap usually goes away with a hot motor because the pistons expand in the bore.
