My current concept is that synthetics can have benefits in the winter, especially if you feel it beneficial to run something like 0W30 to deal with cold temperatures.

Weirdly, on my rebuilt '96 5.0, it got a bit noisier when I tried 5W30 syn blend in it, and that engine's still nearly new with very good oil pressure. :shrugs: Might be better since I fixed a slight pushrod-length problem 2-3 years ago, and may be better still once I swap in the Crane roller conversion I'm removing from a spare engine.

Yeah, I don't really have to worry about it getting that cold here. I think I'll try a synthetic 10W40 next time.

I decided to change the oil with Motorcraft 10-w30 and the FL-1A filter, and what a difference. The car runs a lot quieter now.
