Tried installing the Reman OE distributor and it doesnt seat all the way up to the ring gasket. I compared the HEI I pulled and the new one and the only difference is gear size. The HEI is smaller and seats when put in. So I guess I have to press them out and swap?

I know of no reason the stock gear shouldn't fit. I'd also be surprised if it were the same ID as the one on your HEI.

If it won't drop in in any position, stick your primer tool (or socket and extensions that substitute for a primer tool) in there and turn the oil pump shaft slightly.

I tried moving the oil pump shaft with no luck. Out of frustration I went and bought a control module for a 1980 Camaro and it fired up.

Hey, running is always better than not. And logically, the only possible weak points for an El Cheapo HEI are the module and coil ... so if you got an OK quality module it should (I think) now be relatively reliable.

I think it was BWD. I still want to do the duraspark conversion but not in a rush since its running.

Any tips on adjusting the fuel air mixture screws? New carb runs extremely rich. You screw in till it stumbles, then go 2 turns out on each one?

if you have a vacuum gauge, tuning for the most vacuum is probably the simplest starting point.

One way I've read to use when you have an automatic transmission is to adjust the idle mixture so that you get a minimum drop in RPM when you put the car in gear.
