well i am not going to complain i got the tach for free from my automotive teacher. He has given me other gauges as well in the past so i aint gonna bitch. i would like to install it and use it to help me get better gas mileage by fluctuating with the pedal at ok rpms so i don't have struggling issues. Anyone know where the red and white wire connect to on our cars i am gonna install this today.

One to ignition-hot, one to ground, one to the negative side of the coil or the tach output from your ignition module. IIRC the trigger wire is white, but don't take my word for it. Should be obvious when you connect the right wires to hot and ground, though.

I do own an annoying offbrand tach that uses four wires instead of three. Was told to connect it to both sides of the coil. Annoying!

I'd wager that the trigger/signal wire to tach is green...been that way on two other tachs I had owned.

White wire..strip some wire off the end of it and wrap the wire around the fused side of number 13 fuse position. This will turn on the light when the headlights are turned on and will dim along with all the other illumination with the dimmer switch.

Red wire..strip some wire off the end of it and wrap the wire around the fuse side of number 11 fuse position. This give power to the tach only when the key is in the on/run and accessory position.

Black wire...just find a nut or bolt on the dash and use an eyelid and ground it..or run the wire to the ground bus near the accelerator pedal.

Green...Not to sure because my car always had a tach..take the other guys advise.

If you follow my info you will be good. Just make sure that the brown and orange wires are connected to each other so the tach functions on your 8 cylinder engine.

First get a hold of a test light. Remove the fuses in the fuse positions I told you to use. Position the probe in one of the two terminals from a single fuse position...Turn the key to the on/start position...if the light on the test light lights up that is the UN-FUSED side..soo just take some of the insulation off the end of the wire and wrap the wire around the OTHER side of the fuse..insert fuse making sure that the wire you wrapped is not in the slot you got the test light to light from..this will ensure that your tach is fused.

Now for the illumination do the same. Make sure lights are off.. Pull the fuse for illumination..put test light in a slot..turn on headlights.....make sure to put the wire on the fuse side...again opposite from where you got light from the test light.

I think you're right. I remembered why I don't remember - the AutoMeter tach I bought new was an in-dash design and came with spade terminals instead of wires.

+1 on the test light. I picked one up cheap at Harbor Freight, and I probably use it more than my nice Craftyman multimeter (on 12V systems, my usual experience is that the critical thing is to know what's hot and what's not, and when, and the light is perfect for this).

Hook up a vacuum gauge, keep your foot where the number is highest. Boom, best gas mileage.

I was serious about that. Do the same thing with your meter. instead of looking for a light, you're looking for voltage.
