Installing a Auto Meter Tachometer with Shift light

i am installing a tachometer on my grand marquis. it has a shift light on it what would be the safest rpm shift set point on our type of engine. Also i need to know where to splice these wires to.

    they are these

on tach are a red wire, white wire, green wire, and black wire

white wire goes to 12V Dash Lighting whichever wire that is please tell me.
Black wire goes to negative post on battery terminal
red wire goes to 12 volt ignition switch what wire on our ignition switch would that be.
green wire goes to negative post on coil.

gonna mount it in the middle of the steering column. nice tachometer it is.

        yes it's OVER 9000!!

        no...lol.

I have mine set at 4500 rpm, however mine seems to shift higher than most peoples, others are 3900-4300 as i am aware... it doesn't really matter since you are driving an auto...you can just floor it and see where it shifts.

4200ish is stock WOT shift point. motor makes no power over that speed, so no point in spinning it out any more.

Manual shifting an Auto. Gonna make the car slower. Best to let the transmission shift for itself.
Vegeta, what does the scouter say about this engines peak RPM?

When I get those blasted valve covers done and the motor is sealed up nice and running great I'm hitting 4200 if it kills me. I've never had it past like 2800.

I'd hook a boost gauge up for shits and giggles, and also to monitor my engine's vacuum.

                          I agree.

That way the light never comes on.

I think I set the light up to come on at 7200 in the Monte Carlo I race. The car usually gets shifted at 7000. The light it just an 'oh shit' light for us.

Damn things are just a distraction.

I think big tachs and shift lights are absurd for a street car, especially when the car is basically stock.
