Yeah those gaskets are usually compressed paper, not cork. I like to slather them with black RTV when I install them.

      Good Day,
I have pulled everything apart and am about to do my cleaning prior to reassembly. Please by the access to nooks and crannies.

What I have found is rusty or greasy bolts used to hold the water pump in. Since I might have extra bolts from the Mark VII should I switch out the rusty ones? In a 2009 post there was talk about these breaking off creating learning opportunities on extracting them.

RTV on the block and pump so gasket holds correct? ( I bought the Ultra Black gasket maker)

Thanks for help advise so far.

Ultra Black is the preferred... it is what Scott uses too

Clean the bolts up with a wire brush. If the bolts from the VII are in better shape and happen to be the same, use them but some will not be the same. I use anti-seize on the really long bolts that go into the water passages. If any are getting scary and thin after you wire brush them, see if your local parts store has replacements. I seem to recall that if you buy two Mustang sets, you can piece together a Panther set. Most places do not have any listing for a Panther vehicle. Ford only ever made Mustangs and F150's, so if the parts dont fit those, you're somewhat SOL. Actually the truck water pump bolt set may be closer to what is needed for a Panther now that I think about it.

Regular oil changes Mobile One, No leaks however losing somehow
Mine will eat oil on the highway if I use 5w-30. Some people experience mystery oil loss with mobil 1, so try something else if your using something other than 5w30. Penzoil Platinum is reasonably priced synthetic alternative.

in the owner manual it says 10w-30 year round... i have a few leaks and use 10w-40... i use valvoline for oil changes... pennzoil and quaker state leave a wax residue

Around here, Valvoline Semi-synthetic 10W-40 is $14-15 for a 5-quart jug at Wal-Mart. It's funny because it's $5 per quart bottle, but in the jug it's much cheaper.

                  Gentlemen,
Thanks for the word on oil. Been wondering why that is the case. Experience the same thing on those BMW which I get to maintain and others get to drive, oh I am 1 payment away from paying their cars off!

So I very anally clean as much as possible, reassembly everything, get ready to flush and think to my self; tighten the drain plug. Only problem is I misplaced the plug LOL. Cleverly I head for the extra rad I have and see, different design. Now I am busying looking for that plastic plug you are not suppose to pull out.

Enjoy the day, going to be hot and sticky here. Monday evening I get to enjoy 28 and snow. Hopefully there will be a windchill effect also.

                      Greetings,
Question: When you buy a Bosch 100% new water pump it comes with three gaskets. Are they all to be used?

The reason is I installed it months ago with one of the three and slowly but surely it has leaked. Maybe not enough black caulking? Torque was 25 (maybe to little?)

Anyways I am enjoying a sunny and hot day doing the job over again. Washing all of the areas that are now shiny and sticky.
                      Thanks,

Quick Update: Basically a case of stacking small errors

                        1) wiped down however did not clean with solvent all metal surfaces
                        2) left a bit of coolant in ports from engine (most likely root cause of leak)
                        3) should have allowed a bit more time between reassembly and adding coolant

the gaskets are usually for different applications. Only one is likely to match your vehicle. There should be the standard rotation, reverse rotation, and maybe the funky one used on sn95 vehicles.

                              waterpump

                              (2) left a bit of coolant in the ports in engine ( most likely cause of leak)

Thats why i remove the 1/4 inch allen plug on each side of the block. Last nite i got about an extra gallon out of the block. I then flushed the block out with the hose at low psi.

Driver side is all the way back past the freeze plug. Pass side is way up front. If no water comes out, pop the rust with a screwdriver and get soaked.

I hope you didnt break the timing cover gasket when you pulled the wpump off. How often does that happen? I was thinking of starting a post asking that question. I heard thats common on 60 degree gm crap.

just fair warning, those block drains don't always want to come out. If it doesn't feel like its going to turn, don't force it. In most cases, that plug has not been out since the engine was assembled over 20 years ago.
