obvious, but the meter does read 0 when the leads are touched together right ? And what scale were you on? I dont know what the resistance is on a good crank sensor, but it may be in the 1000 ohm range. If the meter was on 200 ohms, you'll see 1 meaning infinite or out of range if the sensor is supposed to be 1k or something.

on a scale of 2,000's and the meter reads 0 when you touch the leads together.

ok we got a report from identifix.com and this said what they said to do.

also another thing i put the new egr spacer on and it looks nice and clean but on it it has 2 vacuum ports. Where does the small vacuum port plug too. is it ok to plug this port.

If this is an ecm problem i will then convert over to EEC-IV with the help of 86VickyLX.

is that the little wire hooked also to the negative post of the battery.

ok here's the new crank position sensor. What the hell is the little silver bare wire hanging out on the side for a ground if so where does that go.

Thats a shield wire. Its grounded at the connector end. Don't do anything with it on the sensor end of things.

If you have no vacuum lines that are supposed to plug into the egr spacer, just cap off the ones on the replacement. They're probably for stuff on a different model or year car.

funny it came off of a 1983 ford crown vic with cfi. Would it hurt to cap this off. only one vacuum hose was connected to the spacer. will take pics tomorrow.

                      yes.
Hey, did the other crank sensor have the shielded wire? If not, it may have pissed off the pcm.

you have to plug the extra ports or you will have a major vacuum leak.......they changed cfi intakes and egr spacers around a whole bunch......i think it depended on the suppliers at the time.......i have seen cast iron and aluminum intakes on cfi cars.

the new crank sensor was not rubbing the exciter wheel on the crank i hope?
