type f instead of a shift kit?

I was thinking about putting in type F tranny fluid, since I'm doing a transmission fluid change anyway. I'm thinking the F will firm up the shifts and eliminate any slipping. Anyone tried this yet, and is it advisable? I know your only supposed to use mercon, but aod's being known for slippage, I thought a little type F would do a lot of good for much less effort than a shift kit.

i definitely would advise AGAINST putting that in there. our aods are designed for running dexron III and putting type f in there would prob screw it up.

Let's not be a dickhead, dude.

Some old timers did suggest this, but in GM transmissions.... (Fluid change as a shift kit)

automatic transmissions are hydraulic devices. the fluid has 3 jobs... pressure, lubrication, and cooling. dextron III and type F are bout hydraulic fluids. dextron is thinner, F is thicker. a thicker fluid should build more pressure... which would cause a harder shift. but will it lube and protect all the parts correctly? i dunno. get a $25 shift kit!

              dont use type f
if you want a different fluid, use the pensoil universal atf.....it's synthetic, and it made my aod shift alot better

Pressure is resistance to flow and relative to where you take the reading. High pressure after the pump could translate to lower pressure towards the end of the line.
For an example-----Putting 20W50 in a street engine with tight factory tolerances will cause more damage than good.

wouldnt the AOD be desinged for Mercon since Dexron is a GM fluid spec?

                    Is this a serious question?
Oil manufacturers have the same qt of oil meeting both specifications. I am not aware of anyone marketing a qt of oil which meets one and not the other.

i know that merconIII and dexron are the same fluid. Im just bringing up that dexron is what GM calls it while FoMoCo calls it Mercon III
