To get my car registered I have to have it e checked, today I got it tested and needless to say it failed one part of the test. My NO levels are too high almost twice the limit. The stupid booklet says it occurs when exhaust temps run too high. What causes this? I has new cats, O2 sensor, and other things. What the hell? Any ideas?

bad/stuck/clogged EGR system usually. Agree with mrltd about cleaning it.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Anyone know the requirements for a classic/collectilble license plates in ohio. E-check is so retarded, in Columbus they dont have it and it is a much larger city than Cleveland! I want to get the plates so I dont have to worry about it and switch to a carb right away.

actually, NOx is formed in the combustion chamber, and running rich reduces combustion chamber temperatures, which creates less NOx. What running rich does is increase Carbon Monoxide and Hydrocarbon emissions.
Running Lean increases combustion chamber temperatures and increases NOx. Extreme lean can also increase CO and HC because it's easier to miss when running lean.
now, cap rotor wires plugs are all good suggestions. egr is well, egr and it blows goats, but you can pull it and clean the ports, it's easy, just need a pick and a vacuum cleaner hehe. hell a pocket screwdriver would work.
good luck, I have to echeck my truck, but thankfully, this is the last year of this crap.GMNRadio DJ, Podcast Co-Host

I think my car only qualifies if I say and prove its a brougham, which its not. Any way of cheating the system on this one?

Unless you can fast forward 5 years, or change your car to a 1980, I'm going to say no, especially with the production numbers and non-intrest status these cars have anymore.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Or use the old rod builder's trick of a gallon or so of denatured alcohol in a close to empty tank. Usually that works for CO/HC but I dont know about NOX. Not really good for the fuel hoses to run long term but it won't hurt anything if you fill up after leaving the inspection station.
Just fix the EGR shit and you should be good.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

As far as collectors plates. If your car is listed in one of the two publications of collectors cars the state uses, you can get them. If your car is not in one of the two books, you can fill out some paper work and try to convince the state your car is a collectible.
You also have to have another car registered in your name. The collectors car cannot be your only ride.
I looked into this for my 90 Mustang LX 5.0. They listed a 90 LX 5.0 in the one book, but it was the special green and white 7-up vert. I recently saw a late model vette with collectors plates.

I guess I will try fix the egr tomarrow, it looks like rain today and I am still tired from last nights game....no it wasnt a game it was a massacre!
One thing though my grandpa always complained about the car stalling so he had a mechanic change it and it did not help. I looked at it the other day and saw a vacuum line plugged with a bolt that goes to the egr. Any theories there?
