How long to swap evaporator cores?

Book time says 4.0 standard, 1.8 warranty.

What is more likely, from ve--cough--recovering the R-134a to charging? Include an hour for evacuation.

Pap said about 3 hours, maybe less.

so what your saying is if they are charging the customer it takes 4 hours, if they are paying for it it takes 1.8 so im thinking oooppss r12 shot right out into the atmosphere. nothing i could do.

since its in the same area, Id guess it would take about as long as a heater core would.

I think he is saying that the books says it should take 4 hours. So if a walk in customer gets it done you change him 4 hours. 1.8 is what ass whole Ford says it should be done in. Of course they have a few special triacks when they figure these times.

1: Before starting the clock all the needed tools are found and placed on an open flat bench.

2: All tests are performed free of all fluids etc.

3: Any time the mechanic need to refer to a book is not counted.

4: Placing vehicle on lift is not included.

5: All are of course performed on new perfect clean vehicles.

That is how Ford decides how much they should pay their techs for warranty work. :cuss:

Except I don't have to rip the dash apart.

I was under the impression that the heater core and evaporator lived inside the same box under the dash?

The evaporator is in that black case behind the drier, under the hood. All write-ups I have seen say nothing about going inside the car.
