    Engine Swap question

Would it be easier to remove the lopo engine with the trans attached, and install the HO with trans attached, or just pull the engine and install the HO? Also are replacement motor mounts readily available for my car (mounts are original)?

never had much luck pulling an engine with trans. Sounds like it ought to be easier, but I have never seen it actually work like expected. Maybe with an overhead chain hoist.

mounts are obtainable, but its a bitch to change them with the lower control arms in place. Pull the LCA and its cake.

on-topic, so I hope this isn't thread jacking, but how many motor mounts are there on one of our engines? where?

I did mine this spring with the trans attached, it was a piece of cake.. Hardest part was getting the shifter linkage out of the bushing.

rermove rad, fan, crank pulley and trans crossmember, motor/trans will pass out no problem!

Never removed motor and trans at the same time, but just motor is pretty damn easy.

I would never even consider trying to change the motor mounts again without pulling the lower control arms. Its possible, but not worth it by any stretch of the imagination.

Thanks for the advice. I will be using an A-frame and a chain hoist for the removal and install.

two, one per side, roughly center of the engine down near the oil pan. They're the large brackets that bolt to the under-engine crossmember. You may find reference to the rear engine mount, and thats the transmission mount.
