          A/C work

          Stu...
All they are trying to say is if you have the machine you can "Adjust" the charge... It took about an hour for my A/C man to come up with the right charge.. it is not an excact science when you put R-134 in a system that was originally a R-12. The amount you have to put in the system is a certain fraction of the original R-12 specs... And so you have to add and remove a little to get a perfect amount... just adding a certain amount won't work... R-134 will actually not cool as well if you put too much in... so just "filling it up" won't really work...

My Mechanic was able to figure out the correct charge for mine by adding and removing the amount in the system... and then he remembered how much in Lbs. and Ozs. he put in it for the next time... (Which his machine keeps track of, he "zeros" the system when he starts out) The last time I went back to have it checked, he zero'ed the machine, then evacuated the system, and then re filled it to the amount he had it at the first time. The up side is, it runs the R-134 thru the machines filters when he does this. You have to be pretty excact with the R-134, or it won't cool as good... He also said as far as the gauges.... On the R-134, all they are really good at is checking the pressures of the compressor, (Another words, to tell if the compressor is actually working or not) not telling how much freon.. he says it is best to go by the actual weight of the R-134...

Here is what mine puts out on a 95 degree day....

and here is what it goes up to when I'm sitting at a light...

And yes, the temp. gauge is accurate.... I have another one that reads the same when i put it in the vent....

          Tom...

Mine doesn't work that well, but its not too bad. Next spring I'll get my uncle to pull the system down and properly recharge it. I did it myself with a vacuum pump and one of those cheap 134a charge kit deals. The gas was free, the pump use was free, all I paid for was the $15 hose to connect the can to the charge port. When really hot in traffic, I get 45-50 degrees at the vents, about 40 when moving. Not frigid but it works.

                40 psi.

The main reason I know there is a problem is the accumulator is not sweating AT ALL. Something is not right--it isn't a matter of not being cold enough.

                  A/C

Yes, something is not right if the dryer isn't sweating and COLD.... ESPECIALLY where you live!!!
Maybe your orfice tube plugged up with junk??? Do you have the two set of gauges... for low and high side to check if it is drawing down right when it is on??? if you have real high head pressure... you could have a stuck valve in the compressor, or a clogged orfice tube.... Tom....

I measured mine today and its got low as 42.8 degrees.. I have a digital fluke meter that also can read temp. My drier was not sweating either and my AC was not cold like how i wanted. It also would leak when i took the low side blue protective cap off..I did the 134a retrofit thing. But today after i went to my buddies shop he pulled all the 134a out and he found out that the o ring in the connector was bad as well as i didnt remove teh old pin out my new drier. The schrader vavle pin. Once he removed that and put on the new low side adapter i got from NAPA..Mt drier is sweating liek crazy and my air is cold as hell... Gotta wear a sweater in my car lol....Yeah man but that might be ur problem and why ur drier does not sweat..

yea i forgot to mention that stu.........the aluminium retroifit fittings are crapola........best to get the 4 seasons brand fittings from napa or an independent........they are pricey (5-8 ea) but they work well and dont leak

I removed the valve from the drier and installed the new fittings. Can't say there is a leak as I used dye, but after evacuating the system AGAIN for twice as long, it is blowing cold. Not sure the temperature, probably not arctic, but it is workable.
