Don't over tighten the new belt, or the old one won't be the only thing that needs replacing.

And toss the old belt in the trunk, nice to have a spare.

Jonathan, I overtightened the 1st timing belt I installed, sheared the head off the lower pulley bolt :dammit: 30 man hours replacing that thing.

It was cracking so it wouldn't have been much good anyway.

cracking is still better than broke. It'll get you home... or so the idea goes. I just keep tools in my trunk to take care of the basics. much more than changing an easy to reach hose or belt and I'm callin a wrecker.

It's tricky keeping the water pump spinning while you slide the belt down around the moving fan, but it's doable. Only took me like 20 minutes

Just be careful on what you pry on with anything cast, my dad broke the alternator bracket in my moms 85 olds with a crowbar. I always use on to tension mine up though, just find a solid place to put pressure.

I just grab the alternator with my hand and pull it tight. The do-not-pry-against-the-alternator was ingrained into me at an early age.
