    what codes to expect with no smog

    My A/C-smog belt is off and I don't have cats anyway

    44) Secondary air injection system inoperative - right side (R)

    45) Secondary air injection upstream during self test (R)

    46) Secondary air injection Not by-passed durning self test (R)

    94) Secondary air injection system inoperative (left side) (R)


    Are those the codes I can expect from that, or are there more?

      44 and 94 are all you're likely to actually see.

          Leave all the solenoids in place and plugged in, just cap off the vacuum ports = NO codes.

          problem solved.

            nuts to that. I'm pulling the smog and AC out of there ASAP, I don't care about getting two codes if my engine light isn't on.

              If your throwing codes, the engine lights gonna' come on.....
              When it's cold out, I get the 44/94 codes till my car is good-and-warmed-up, it's annoying, but I've learned to live with it.

                  If the computer "see's" something it doesn't like, it throws/stores a code.
                  When this happens, the "check engine" light comes on.

                  This is the yellow check engine light I'm talking about that only the newer boxes have, not the red "replace engine light of doom" that comes on when you have no oil pressure or are ridiculously overheated.

                  Mine blinks/flashes a lot on cold days since I took the A/C-smog belt off my car.
                  I suspect my o2 sensors are tired and contributing to this as well.

                  ......But my car runs great!
                  With most of the cold weather gone away my MPG's are back up in the low 20's.

                    I haven't had any lights. Last time I had it on a computer it was showing smog pump codes.

                      Does your check engine light flash when the codes are being retrieved? (mine does)

                      It could be that yours is burnt out.

                      Or that even without your smog stuff hooked up things might still be within normal operating range. Possibly those were old stored codes?

                        The CEL comes on when my fuel pump primes etc before I start the car so I know it's not burnt out. I dunno. It works now

                          Check engine light does not come on for the smog pump. It comes on for very few things actually, most of them are EGR related it seems.

                          removing the smog pump plumbing gives a 44 and a 94 during a self test because the O2 sensor doesn't see the air being pumped into the head. No way around that, but it doesn't affect anything, and it won't produce any stored codes or any idiot lights.

                              Wrong again, my young Kandian friend.

                              ECM can (and will) set trouble codes with out triggering the CEL.

                              Keep in mind there 3 different ways to read trouble codes. Key On Engine Off. Key On Engine Running and Continuous or Keep Alive. which is why you need a good code reader to scan for all 3 ways.

                              Continuous/Keep Alive codes are considered hard fault codes and will set the check engine light.
