    coolant temp sender dead?

so today i washed my engine at the car wash.everything was cool.i leave the wash and look at the dash and see my red engine light on. I pull over, cut the car off and check everything.looks good, so i cut the car back on and head back home.On the way, it cuts back on again, but cuts in and cuts out.so when i get home i disconnect the oil sender to see if thats it.Nope, light still on.so then i disconnect the temp sender, and the light cuts off.so i plug the oil sender back up and keep the sender disconnected and the light stays off. does this mean i need to replace the temp sender?

Only if the light is not on because the car is overheating.

Only way to confirm this would be to install a temp gauge and actually monitor if you are overheating.
