stock distributer for the proform hei

so i want to use stock ignition setup instead of the proform HEI i have. dont know why i just do besides i want all ford on the car.

this car was fuel injected but i went to carb so you know so im not using hte computer.

i was gonna get a dizzy of a 81 ltd 5.0 and the 3 plug duraspark box. i know hte 4 wire plug is for hte dizzy the white and red wire plug is power and ground and the other is for hte coil.

my big question is if i still need the resistor wire? i wasnt sure if the box can control the spark times for the coil without it?

if i do then i may just get a msd box instead.

the only other thing id do is just get a msd box and not worry bout that stuff for the carbed distributer
the green wire i was just gonna run for my tach

so i just realized that the red and white wire is for power and hte black going to the distributer is for ignition ground. the other wires i still know where they go but yea still dont know if ill need that resistor wire or if the duraspark box will regulate the voltage going to the coil without it

85 Mustang 5 speed is what you need. Anything else will shred the cam gear.

if the dspark wiring diagram includes a resistor wire, you need it. It will cook the coil or the box without it.

it needs to have a steel gear correct?

Can you not use the resistor block from an '85ish Dodge truck in place of the wire?

            steel gear, yes.

ballast resistor would probably work fine, just need to have something in there.

figure id add if anyone cares for the distributor number from cardone is a 30-2831 for a rebuilt. i got that one off a 81 ltd 5.0 but it was the same number for a 85 mustang. found almost every 5.0 they listed a dizzy with a steel or iron gear like they knew the cam choice could change if the car owner wanted to change it

just make sure you get a ballast with the right amount of resistance and you should be fine.
