    i want to run GT40 heads on my 89 towncar

    I've read places that you both can and cannot use GT40 heads on a stock 89 Towncar shortblock. I want to know the truth b/c i would like the extra 30hp from the GT's if at all possible. If I ran the HO cam as well would it be dangerous?

    get the HO cam and intake and computer, GT40 heads, headers, and youll be in business.

    edit : there are 2 GT40 series heads i believe. the GT40P heads require special headers. someone correct me if im wrong

      so the valves wont hit the pistons? this is kind of important i dont want to destroy my engine.

        i may be wrong, again, but i think that your pistons have reliefs and are dished. i dont think youll have any clearance issues running an HO cam.

          Lopo engines don't have valve reliefs in the pistons, but to my knowlege there is no clearance issue with using an HO cam with these pistons, at least with the standard e7 head. I don't know if the same holds true with gt40 heads and lopo pistons.

          yes, there are 2 gt40 heads. gt40 use the same headers as the e7 or whatever. gt40p requires a special header that apparently only Ford makes. If you have the choice, i'd go regular gt40 just because you have a larger selection of exhaust that is known to work.

            Yep, all that is correct. The P heads are better, but both can be had for under $400 bucks. The standard Gt-40's are fine though.

              it says in the HO conversion on Lincolns online that GT40 heads wont work because my pistons are not dished :bs: . but i want a 2nd opinion, has anyone put GT40's on a LoPo 5.0??

                non ho pistons are dished.........as long as u use the ho cam and 1.6 rockers, you should be fine

                1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

                  You can measure piston to valve clearance with light weight springs from the hardware store and feeler gauges between the valve stem and the rocker.

                    or use clay or silly putty or something similar spread across the top of the piston.
