    HO parts prices

What can you get the high output bits for in your area? I just found a guy with a ton of OEM Ford stuff, he's got an upper/lower/tb/injectors for $100 and E7 heads for $150 (yes i have 2 sets Both are ported and polished with all new valve jobs and seals, and 1 set is planed down .10 for more compression but they currently have crane arms scroprion rollor rockers aluminum 1.72 and other set has a mild port and polish with 1.6 blue crane am rollors
would you want a set them with the rollor rockers?
    )

intake seems expensive and the heads seem too cheap. whaddya think?

complete upper, lower, throttle body and injectors for 100 metric is actually not too bad if they're cleanish. 150 for ported rebuilt heads does sound cheap, but maybe he's tired of looking at the stuff.

Thanks man, it's tax return season so I might have a HO Ford Grand Marquis soon

What does all the stuff he mentoned about the heads mean? Ported, planed etc.. Z I don't think those rockers will fit under my covers though so I dunno, might just need the regular ones

I know I read about people using taller valve covers...would that remedy the clearance problems with those rockers and my stock valve covers? Am I correct in assuming that they won't fit under the stock ones

From what I can gather, some roller rockers fit, some don't. Some people have made bulkier ones fit by modifying or eliminating the breather baffles.

Also, you may want to beware of ported heads of unknown origin.

Planed means some material was taken away from the head on the surface that mates to the block, with the aim of increasing compression (by decreasing the size of the combustion chamber) or making the surface flat to prevent head gasket blowing.

Ported means someone has ground away material strategically in the runners so that air flows through the head faster/better/in larger quantities. Polishing smooths out the surface of the runners in the head or intake for the same purpose. Porting especially can have negative effects if done poorly, as 87CP touched on. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the guy is selling the heads for that price because he's caused permanent damage with an amateur porting job.

Crane Cobra rockers fit under the stock steel valve covers with no mods. Our valve covers are what came on the 93 Cobra, which is what those rockers came from. Don't know about other rockers, some fit, some don't.

Porting the heads means the intake and exhaust ports have been ground out for more and better flow. Unfortunately if its done wrong, it can either make no difference, or in extreme cases, it makes things worse. Polishing the heads just means they made the insides of the ports shiny. Usually you get that during the port job without any extra effort. Planed (or shaved) just means the head was milled down to increase compression a bit. Often, when you have a head rebuilt they mill the surface down a few thousandths just to make it properly flat. Improper use of a gasket grinder tool can make a head not flat enough to mess up the sealing surfaces. My P heads had to be shaved for that reason.

How will I know if the heads are worthless or not? for 250 bucks for everything needed in the swap (minus cam and ecu) i cant complain.

Maybe a shop can test them? I need to have mine looked at. They have 6k on them, but I just need to be sure, so I would also like to know. My dad said something about the intake valve should be white and the exhaust black? or the other way around, well 2 cylinders on mine are all black. Not sure if anyone knows what this method is about or if it is good.

Yeah, I don't know anything about machining, after I gather all the parts I'm gonna get my mechanic to do most of the work

Is all of it very straightforward? If I brought in all of the parts (upper/lower/tb/bored egr spacer/ecu/cam/injectors/headers) would he more or less know what to do? I'll have the arm swapped on the throttle body beforehand

If he is any good he should know what to do. Ill be doing my swap, but sending the heads out to get worked on. The TB needs some work to accept the TV cable though, not sure if hell know how to do that.

Yeah its alright, No grudges. It wasn't expensive so I don't really care. Like I said, if that is all that goes wrong Im more than happy. Also on a side note I took a ride to the Ford garage today to get a quote on headlight assemblies for the TC. All the dealers drooled over my car when I pulled in. I left all the windows down so they could see the new speedo. It was a good time.
