    83 gm waterpump/timing cover bolts

I have a 93 mustang lx 5.0 engine that i am putting 83 gm accessories on to put in my 83 grand marquis well long story short. I have a lx long block with a 83 gm timing cover and 83 gm water pump on it so far. ------I forgot which bolts go where on the timing/water pump. -- Thank you everyone that has helped me so far and will/might in the future.

You're going to have to keep trying until all of the bolts go in. You may have to move them around once you get all of the accessories on the water pump. some are also longer than others so it's time consuming but you'll figure it out. And welcome to GMN,

yep, move them around till they look right. Pushed in but not threaded in, they should all be roughly the same distance away from the face of the pump. The two longest ones go through to the water jacket on the outer edges. The one without the stud goes near the connection to the lower rad hose.

If they're in bad shape, get new ones. Also, use a good coating of antiseize one the long ones where they go into the water jacket. Its a real pain in the ass when those break.

              holy crap

these bolts were between 16-28 a piece. I think for that much I will look at them again and decide which ones are really bad.

i have gotten the water pump bolt sets from napa for around 25 dollars......clean your originals up with a wire brush, if the shoulders are pitted real bad, i would replace them.....it is normal for them to have alot of surface rust on them
