    2) A cousin of my wife's told me a story of swapping his preproduction Quadrabog (he worked for Rochester at the time it was developed) for a friend's dual-AFB setup. Said that after enough twiddling, he actually was able to get that setup working correctly WITHOUT a progressive linkage.

So it was opening all 8 butterflies at the same time, not just 4 for the first portion of the throttle travel, then all 8 later on? Thats just nuts. Not sure how you'd even make that behave. There is no idle circuit on the secondaries of an AFB. Definitely couldn't do it with a Qjet. The secondaries are run from an air door that just won't open if the engine isn't making enough vacuum to pull on it.

No, if I understood correctly, the carbs themselves were left basically stock, and it was only between the carbs that he didn't run a progressive linkage (no "primary" and "secondary" carburetor). Sounded hard enough like that.

Absolutely! And if you can also manage to make underhood mods that make it run like utter crap, so much the better!
