    Oil cooler?

This may sound stupid and unnecessary but how much work would yanking the oil cooler off a interceptor and putting on my car be? also what would it entail?

I know I don't need one, but I would love to say I had one. The thing is I can get it for next to nothing, so I was just wondering. Pretty sure I need the oil pan too right? I honestly have no experience with them.

Daily Driver has no need for an oil cooler. Just something else to leak. And it will leak.

I understand... you wouldn't wanna use a used one anyway though.

Sigh... alas my dreams have been crushed, ahaha no worries. Im just trying to figure if there are any other parts that would be worth getting off this car. Im snagging the speedo, does anyone know if the front sway bar is larger? I have new stiffer springs, and a rear sway bar already. Any other Ideas?

The PI front bar is 1 1/8in, while the stock one is just 1in, so yes it does offer a slight improvement. If I were you though, I would hold out for the 1 3/16in Wagon Hollow Front bar though, which makes a hugely noticeable difference over the stock piece. The Box PI LTD has a superior frame to your car as well. I'm actually planning on doing the PI frame swap to my '87 LTD, sometime in the next couple years.

Take the rear bar if nothing else. Its far more useful even if you already have one. Sell it, someone needs it.

Springs are slightly stiffer, but I wouldn't bother with 20 year old used ones. You can get new HD springs for about 75 bucks a pair.

The oil cooler thing, well, you really would need to know how hot your oil is getting before deciding if you need one. Most likely you do not, especially since you don't live in the desert. Its a simple installation as far as I'm aware. I think you unthread the oil filter adapter out of the block, bolt up the oil cooler, then use an FL300 filter on the other side. The cooler mounts in front of the radiator. Replacement lines could be an issue though. If you have a local place that can make hydraulic hose assemblies, you're in business but I'd be willing to wager having those two made up will easily be over 100 bucks. I know of a local place that could probably do the job, and they do good work but they don't do cheap work.

The trans cooler is worth getting, and the PS cooler isn't the dumbest thing, though I don't know how effective it is. Can't hurt though. Grab the steel part of the PS return line if you use the cooler. It will have bends favorable to installing it. The rubber part is just transmission cooler line you can get in bulk from the parts store. Get the transmission cooler return line too, the one from the radiator up to the cooler. It makes a trans cooler install a lot cleaner, even if you go with an aftermarket cooler.

if you're using the factory one from the cop car, (flush it first), remove the lower trans fitting from the radiator. Cut the end off. Install the line you stole from the cop car that routes up to the cooler. Install the cooler and it's rubber lines. Run the other rubber line from the cooler to the steel line you cut off. Thats about it. Basically look at how the lines are routed from the factory, and try to duplicate that as best you can. Its not really a big operation though, and cooler trans fluid is a good thing.

Right, ok so there will be no mods needed to the transmission itself? It just needs to have the fluid run through the cooler from pre determined factory positions that I assume right now on my trans are plugged?

nope, just minor mods to the existing lines. The transmission is not touched. There is an existing cooler in the radiator. Thats what the steel lines are below the radiator cap. The external cooler is in addition to the in-radiator cooler. You don't need the lines from the radiator all the way back to the transmission, just the shorty one from the lower radiator fitting that comes up next to the external cooler. Its not even absolutely required, but it makes for a slightly easier and slightly cleaner installation.
