MAke sure you look at the timing covers first. Theres a chance the ports face the opposite way. If thats the case, you also need to swap the timing cover from your original engine.
Its possible the Mustang one looks like the one at the bottom right. It should look like any of the others as far as the water pump ports go. The fuel pump boss and crank sensor mounts don't matter, unless you've got designs on using a mechanical fuel pump. As long as the timing cover is the right kind on the Mustang motor, just get yourself a water pump for an 83 Grand Marq and carry on.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

What would the symptoms of a mismatched pump\cover be?
I have a '91 CP with an '86 LSC engine. It has a GM water pump on
the LSC timing cover. It has always used some coolant, but I've never
determined where it goes......
Thanks.

it would probably dump a pretty fair amount of coolant. Otherwise, its possible it may run hot but thats really it. My engine came from an 88 Bill Blass, its an HO motor that originally had a reverse water pump, yet the timing cover is an exact match for the original. No idea why but I wasn't upset to find that.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
