I don't think a half-decent car has had all drums since the 60's.

What do I know about brakes? A few weeks ago I had to ask if drum brakes were still around because I thought all cars had discs. I'm just now learning basic engine stuff, I don't know jack shit about cars haha

I don't even know what a prop valve is haha or a master cylinder. I know how to check fluid and how to operate them quite well heh

We all know that pushing down the brake pedal slows a car to a stop. But how does your car transmit the energy from your leg to its wheels? How does it multiply that force so that it is enough to stop something as big as a car?

Wow, ancient thread. Its like a blast from the past, but since it was linked elsewhere I guess I should finally do a bit of follow-up that I promised I'd do like 7 years ago.

Some years ago now, my car was switched from the original 1986 booster, master, and prop valve to 98-02 non-ABS equivalents. Its definitely an improvement. I don't have any premature rear pad wear, which is something that can sometimes happen with rear disc conversions using the stock valving. Pedal feel is better, and overall stopping is improved. It wasn't bad before, but its definitely better now. Overall, I'd have to say that I'd give a thumbs up to doing the master cylinder and related items along with other brake upgrades. Not going to pretend I know if some specific combo is better than another, but matching the system components to a factory production range seems to make sense. Rear disc with stock front brakes would probably want 92-94 stuff since the sizes of the parts are the same there vs a box.

One other insignificant detail, the later booster is a lot less "wooshy" sounding when you step on the brakes. Functionally this doesn't mean a damn thing but if that sort of thing bugs you its something to consider. Also, the later booster fits if you need to put a clutch cable in the car, the old big one doesn't.
