Interesting! Never seen one of those before. Is this on an Automatic Temperature Control car?

oh that pos......that's the fan switch cutoff for the atc cars.......the idea was that the fan does not come on until the coolant is warmed up.......they all leak.....the parts store made in china ones splode if you rev the motor over 4 grand. and i havent had luck with the motorcraft ones either......ask me how i know.....just eliminate it......cap off the vacuum lines and make a jumper for the electrical plug and tape it up and hide it

didnt know i can just cap off those vacuum lines like that, by jumper I assume you want me to close the circuit on that electrical plug with a piece of wire and tape it up right?

Basically. Just unplug the connector and put two spade connectors on a short piece of wire and plug that into the harness.

What they said. I had one explode about a week after installing it. Did a real nice job of overheating the car when it blew all the coolant out. Having the blower not come on when the car is cold is kind of nice, but not nearly nice enough to deal with the hassle that thing causes when it fails.

so ALL that part does is sense the temerature in the heater hose and use that to figure out when to turn the fan on?

This is why I am glad my 87 has no fancy features, just more problems and hoses/wires under the already crowded hood.

ok so, I unplugged that POS, replace it with a 3/4 heater hose connector, sealed the vacuum lines BUT when i tried to put the wire to 'jump' that plug my car crapped itself when I tried to start it and shorted the fuck out..I had to simply tape up that plug and jump the car and only then would it start...is that normal?

it shouldn't do that... are you sure you jumped the right one? what do you mean it shorted out? did you have to replace some fuse?

that wire has nothing to do with the starting circuit. its wired into the heater blower motor. Thats it. unless you jumped it to ground, or jumped the wrong plug, i can't see it doing what you describe.
