    {HVAC} 89 Merc vacuum can

I traced all my vacuum problems to a rotted "juice" can on the left fender. Is there a plastic one out there, that I can replace it with? I was even thinking of taking a large closed can, drilling a hole in one end, emptying it out, putting an end on it, and installing it in place of the current one. the main problems I'm having are: the A/C shutting completely down, blower motor, and all when i hit the gas, when in the AUTO position on the fan switch and/or the system going into defrost, when the switch is in the remaining positions (low, med, high). I'm also having cruise control, EGR, and thermactor problems. I can understand the cruise, as it feeds off the same vac tee on the firewall, but the EGR/thermactor gets it's vacuum directly from the manifold. Just for shits, and giggles, I checked the EGR/ thermactor solenoids on the right fenderwell with a DVOM, and ALL the wires are showing full alternator voltage (14.5 volts). Any ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks, Mike

You can actually get a real soup can, drill a hole in the end, drain the soup out, and JB weld a nipple onto it

i think mine was like $29, but it works. Next time I need to replace one, I'm getting a can of juice and doing the drill thing.

the cruise shouldn't be too affected by the can leaking, but the climate controls will certainly freak out. Thats what that can is for actually, to keep the vacuum operated doors working when you accelerate. No idea why the EGR system would be bothered, but replace what you know is bad first.

I used a plastic one from a 87-93 mustang. It's small though, so it might not be enough for a box that came with the big canister.

I might have been halucinating, but I think 91' + panthers have a plastic vacuum resivour moulded around the EEC and fuel pump relays.
