    4.6L mustang exhaust on a 302 panther???

    Hi

I know there are lots of threads out there about putting mustang exhaust on a panther but I don't want to hi-jack anyone's thread to ask this specific question to me.

A guy is selling his stock h-pipe from his 2004 mustang gt including the cats for $150, which sounds like at least a fair price. With the exception of having to lengthen the h-pipe to get the mufflers where they should be will this work on a 302 panther if I put on mustang shorty headers?

    Thanks for the advice.

Thanks, I didn't realize the h-pipe was that cheap new, although I do kind of want to keep at least cat casings under there to make sure I don't get a ticket to put them back on. We don't have emissions testing but a cop can give you a ticket for not physically having cats. Based on the listing you linked to then, the 4.6L exhaust will not work on a 5.0L, the one linked to only list the 5.0Ls. I guess I'll be waiting for now, I thought that might be a good deal if it worked.

Have you ever known a cop to roll around on the ground and check? I think not.

It wouldn't shock me in some of the little towns around here. In one town I got taken out of my car to be told I had an exhaust leak(not the GM). I've never been asked to get out of my car before. I'm always really nice to cops when I get pulled over and had a clean record other than possibly a small speeding ticket so I was shocked, I thought only suspicious acting people and people throwing a fit got asked to get out of there car. Or I suppose if I had questioned that I had an exhaust leak and he wanted me to really hear it but he didn't even tell me why he pulled me over until he had me out of my car.

My brother said the same thing when I talked to him about removing the cats from his truck. I suppose I could just keep the stock exhaust in the basement and if I ever did get pulled over I could put it back on, plus being a car I suppose it is low enough it would be way to hard to tell.

the only thing you have to worry about not having cats are emission test and inspections. I doubt a cop will ever pull you over and look under your car to see if it has cats or not.

They need a warrant to get under your car and look at it. Ask the cop that tried to check mine.

They can look under, so long as they do not break the perimeter of the vehicle, then it effectively is the same as searching your car without a warrant. Basically, they can stand back and look from a distance, but they can't get under it and look. But how much can they really see from a distance? Not enough to make an accurate judgement, and most cops aren't qualified enough to even know what a catalytic converter or a muffler looks like. Saved my ass once when the cop wanted to get under and look, i told him he can't without a warrant so he called in to ask his superior(s) if he really needed one, and decided to let me go and it wasn't worth the hassle to him.

That's how it is here anyways, i don't know about other states.

Yeah I would say that law would be state by state. I just couldn't see that fat ass cops around here laying on the ground and getting all dirty. Maybe the sp's on base but those guys don't give a crap about anything like that.

Wisconsin State Troopers use little mirrors on long metal sticks, something like a giant dentist tool, to look for cats and any kind of red paint that resembles the color of a glasspack. Then the ticket costs like $180 just for having a glasspack, I don't know how much for not having cats. I'm sure in other states troopers have better things to do though.

4.6L Crown Vic pipes will fit a 302. My 90 CV has 4.6L pipes on it. they fit without any problems at all. I took everything from the H pipe back.
                          What happened here?

In WI when we sign our drivers license I think you agree to a reasonable search of the car you are driving on a public road anyway, if I recall correctly. I thought one of my friends had told me that a cop used a mirror on his car.

Based on talking to my one friend that is a cop, back when I got pulled over the last time for having a glass pack on my truck he looked into the law and said it really is only the decibel level that they can ticket you for but most cops will assume if you have glass packs that it is too loud and give you at least a repair ticket. The cop that had pulled me over just told me I should change it and didn't give me anything in writing so I didn't have anything to fight but my friend said you should be able to have it thrown out if it was really just because you had glass packs. I didn't like the sound of the glass pack(was on it when I bought it) so I put on a nice performance muffler and never got bothered about it again.
