LOL, on the hacksaw. That's probably going to happen.

I have been trying learn while taking stuff apart on this car. Only reason I hacked the wires to the ECM mega-plug was because it was so cold and I didn't want to chance breaking the plastic part of the ECM.

Back to the A/C stuff, I popped off the squarish looking clips that I thought were some kind of quik disconnect, but the union just spins around but it doesn't seem to come apart.

Is there some trick to it?

Don't destroy the hoses if you can help it. I think its the liquid line thats unobtanium now. one bolt will pull the manifold off the back of the compressor, one nut holds the drier on. The other two ought to be spring-lock connectors that need the disconnect tool. You slide the tool under the union thing, then pull them apart.

And that's the thing that has been in the back of my mind while working on this....that someone might need/want some of this stuff that is useless to me. So I'm trying really hard to "salvage" and not just "hack" stuff out of my way.

I already got the bolt off the back of the compressor and the nut holding the dryer on. How much does this disconnect tool usually cost? Anyone got a pic?

.....or perhaps I could just go forward of those fittings and chop it at the condensor?
Or is that hard to come by as well? (seriously)

The only thing is that it's no good if no one needs it.... But if your not in a hurry go for it.

I need and ECU, but can see your using that one ahah. Well done, also perusing through here reminds me I should probably change my fuel filter as I can guarantee it has all 42k original miles on it, any idea were its located I know I could just look, but if someone knows that would help out too.

I wondered when you'd spot that ECU pic.....
Your filter is in the frame rail (passenger side I think), right before the axle.
It'll be pretty obvious when you look.

Little update, I kept forgetting to pick up that special tool....and after looking at how crappy the condition of the condensor (that radiator looking thing in front of the radiator).......I got the saws-all out. Boy, those milwaukey (sp?) "the torche" metal cutting blades I bought work really good. I cut beyond the union though, so the A/C hoses could be saved if anyone knows somebody that needs them.

Is the brake master cylinder unobtanium too?
That thing is right in my way and i'd like to get it outta' there. I tried taking the front half off, but the allen bolt unerneath will not budge.

They're cheap and you're gonna need it for your fuel rail anyway. Ask for A/C Fuel Quick Disconnect tool. The parts guy should be able to direct you to them. Shouldn't be more than 10 bucks for the plastic set of 8 iirc.

Master cylinders are rebuildable. Not really unobtainable. IMO.

I picked up that disconnect tool the other day. I got the metal one that's hinged in the middle like scissors. (it makes 4 different sizes). Tried it out to get the lower A/C hose off (the firewall) and it worked. I got the condensor off too. Now the only things in front of the engine are the radiator and it's upper/lower cross-pieces. I figure the saws-all will take care of that.....

I've held off pulling the rad as I didn't want to expose the waterjacket to the elemements yet. (does this matter?) I had thought about tryong to connect the upper and lower rad hoses to keep things sealed for storage, till I decide what I'm doing.

I think I pulled about 10 pounds of wiring out of the engine bay. I was carefull not to snip any plugs that went to the engine though. Boy there's a lot more room in there now!

On the driver's side I still need to get the master cylinder out of my way.
On the passenger side I need to get the emissions stuff out.

I saved the washer bottle and overflow tank. I'm curious to see if these could be used as an alternative to the 90' lincoln TC way of relocating the airbox.

                              The backhoe?

No, nothing like that, although he DOES like his beer........

He's a really nice guy, but he's just not the type that gets to things right away.
I might be able to get him to help me a year or so from now...........
He's a mason, so when the weather's nice for getting stuff done, he usually has a job to get done, so he has no time for stuff like this.

What if you had him mason up something near the car? then kinda just slid it in, and surprise, next thing he knows hes helping you.
