my watertemp gauge was only getting up to about 150, so i bought a new thermostat. i see the upper radiator hose going into the housing, but what is the other little hose going into the housing? ive changed thermostats before but never seen 2 hoses... what is that

Yep, bypass hose. It's what allows coolant to flow through the engine before the thermostat opens. With the thermostat closed, the coolant will flow through the engine, but not the radiator.
