Need Parts List for Explorer JY Pull

Hey guys, my apologies if this has been discussed before.

There are some C4C 5.0L Explorers in the yard near me, I cannot buy a complete engine (nor would I want to) but the heads / intake / etc are fair game.

I was curious what I should pull at the same time - head obviously, but intake? manifolds? injectors? What else?

For comparison I have stock 5.0L (E7) heads on the shelf, an HO cam, 19 lb injectors, stock Mustang intake and exhaust manifolds, and other bits. They have a "core charge" (why I don't know) on heads you pull so I will probably dump the E7 heads in exchange. Everything else is flat rate.

    Thanks in advance.

if you already have the HO cam and injectors, then you really only need the heads and upper and lower intake. The cam is different in the sploder, but im not sure if that would have withstood the clunker bit.

Thanks! For some reason I was thinking the Explorer injectors were 24 lb / hr. Are they 19's like the HO's?

Also I seem to remember that the exhaust ports are different - raised? Or am I thinking of one of the other 302 Ford (factory) heads?

19# like any other HO (including 5.8). The ports are not raised in any significant amount. Exhaust ports are slightly larger at the opening but the contour within the head is greatly improved. The largest issue is the plug angle. The plug is moved out closer to perpendicular to the flange surface which makes header tube clearance an issue.

Thanks, that must be what I was thinking of. I can research this but do you know off hand if the stock 5.0 headers, or any of the long tube variants will work?

FRPP shorty headers are reasonably priced. There is no reason to put a good set of heads on and then make them exhale through straws...

The FRPP headers are pretty nice pieces, they fit up nice too.

I'd just be slightly leery of heads from a c4c engine, unless you plan to rebuild them. I'd just figure the valve guides and everything else are going to be wasted. Intake ought to be just fine though. i would not trust a cam out of a c4c vehicle at all.

Yeah...I'd rather just look elsewhere, at the very least those heads are going to need to be completely (and i mean completely) rebuilt assuming they are usable at all. The cam and bearings will likely be completely wiped out. Only thing worth grabbing in my opinion would be the intake.

The heads are likely not any worse for wear. Valve guides are tough. The rockers and fulcrums will likely show more wear from the abuse than the valve guides.

At the yards down here they marked all the heads from C4C cars and refuse to sell them at all, even as cores.

Get the intake (upper and lower are required), injectors, and throttle body.

Speaking of injectors, is there really any difference between the 4-hole ones or the older shaft-thing style ones?

supposedly they are more fuel efficient because the spray the fuel in a better pattern or something. That is what I as told once.
