I like the thought of a pipe-threaded drain plug.

      .
no... if the threads in the pan are good, try a new normal plug first.

So do I. Whoever posted that originally must be really smart.

...although, I'm not sure 1/4" would be sufficient for a secure fit. I'd go 3/8".

...and make sure the surface is thoroughly cleaned first.

That's what I have decided to do....and if I do strip them out...well I'll have my oversize plugs handy to deal with it. Only reason I have been going on about it is that I have an oil change coming up and it's only going to get colder outside.........

the oil drain plug is only supposed to be snugged down. Don't reef on it, the threads are shallow at best.

                      OOoo....I got that covered!
I actually have a spare set of regular sized new drain plugs as well as a baggie of different washers. Although i do not know if the "help" brand of drain plugs are made of "softer" metal than the pan like the factory plugs are.
