    Dual Exhaust question???

I am ready to upgrade to a dual exhaust system. I plan to use some mustang shorty headers, magnaflow mufflers, and 94-96 impala tailpipes and let the shop fabricate everything else. Has anybody tried these impala tailpipes ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CAPRI...Q5fAccessories ) ? Any help would be appreciated on where to find some quality impala tailpipes and mustang headers...

I have used the impy tailpipes. Got them from Rockauto.com for $75 shipped, They fit, however they do hang a little low in the back unlike stock ones, but are far cheaper then having custom ones made, you may even be able to have a shop bend them slightly to get them to fit flush if that bothers you, also you will need an extension if you plan on having them go all the way out the back, ill post a picture of my setup if i can find it..

EDIT: Just looked at the ebay listing you posted and those do NOT look like the ones i got off of rockauto, in fact i dont believe that is a tailpipe, it says its an intermediate pipe, that would go from the cat to the muffler i believe. I'll post another pic of just the tailpipes i got.

I was thinking the same thing. That may just be a stock photo that they use for all tailpipe auctions, but I'd contact the seller and see if they can supply you with any more information before dropping any money on it. It also said in the information that only one is needed per car, which would suggest that it's not what you're looking for. If they have it, there should be one listed as Driver's Side tailpipe and one listed as Passenger's Side tailpipe.

Brown Muscle: What did you use to undercoat your trunk? Looks nice. I'm hoping for one nice weekend to do the same treatment to the bottom of my mom's CV.

              Oh.......sorry for the.

stupid question, but, do you need to use a crossover like an h pipe, or can you just put straight pipe between the cats and muffler on both sides?

You can, but the H-pipe generally improves the exhaust flow a bit, and if you're not running headers, it will make the passenger side of the exhaust system last longer, since the heat riser valve in the passenger side manifold, when it's closed, reduces the flow through the passenger side pipes. Since there's not as much exhaust going through it, the pipes won't warm up, which will make the acids in the exhaust condense on the pipes and rot them out. With an H-pipe, part of the driver's side exhaust can go through the passenger side and keep it warm so that doesn't happen.

Thanks Nathan. If I had a set of Rustang headers on, would it be a different story?
