    2.5" exhaust build - 1988 Grand Marquis

Circumstances have forced me to DD my '88 GM this winter. Car needs to be put into rotation, but it's a little too loud. I have a feeling some neighbors are going to get pissed off if I keep firing this car up every morning for the next five months.

Current set-up: 2.5" cat-less H-pipe, downsized to 2.25" pipe, downsized to 2" glass packs, then stock 2" tails. System is welded as one piece. Not what I wanted, but it's what I ended up with. Will need to be chopped up for storage purposes.

    What I'm gearing up for:
    -(1) 2.5" cat-less H-pipe (have)
    -(2) 2.5" 'Stang mid-pipes (have)
    -(4) Bolts for flanges (have)
-(2) 2.5" Extension tubes between mid-pipes and mufflers (have)
-(2) 2.5" Dynomax Turbo mufflers, double off-set (have)
-(2) 2.5" Impala tail pipes (have)
-(2) 18" extension tubes (need to buy)
    -(2) 2.5" turn downs (have)
-(4) Band clamps, muffler-to-ext. pipes/tail pipes for easier removal in the future (need to buy)
    -(6) U-clamps (need to buy)
-(4) Swinger hangers (need to buy)

Does that pretty much sum it up? Any suggestions? No clue if I'll even get to this any time soon, but I like to be prepared. All relevant input is appreciated.

I'd probably whack the glasspacks off, install some quieter mufflers, and larger tailpipes. Being welded isn't the worst thing in the world, but it does make it a pain in the ass to service things. 2.25" tails would fit the bill pretty nicely actually if thats a stock motor. 2.25" mids and mufflers won't be a problem either.

question for you. Your using stang mid pipes and then an extension pipe after that, is that just because the stang mid pipes dont put a mufflers far enough back on a panther? I am piecing together a similar setup on my car and wanted a lil input.

      aftermarket un-equal shortys
      2.5'' off road H pipe
      2.5'' mustang mid pipes
2.5'' in/out mufflers dumped at the axle

So I will still need another set of mid pipes? Also what car would I get them for?

Sorry for the super thread jack, but I figured since it was up for discussion why not haha

yeah, if you use Mustang mids without an extension, the mufflers end up about a foot forward of where they belong. Usually all you need are Mustang mids with straight extension pipes, or if you're going 2.25" theres an S10 midpipe that you can cut down to the proper length.
