    Seafoam/Lucas

I was doing some searching on the forums since I was curious and a little bored. Got a nice chuckle after reading some 2-4 year old posts about Seafoam.

Has anyone been using Seafoam as of the past couple of years? If so, in which applications have you used it? Any experiences you care to share?

I've been considering dumping a can in one of the gas tanks on my F-150 w/EFI 351 before taking it out on a trip. Fuel economy sucks a bit more than it should. Truck has a complete tune-up, but I figure the injectors may be a little dirty since the truck didn't get driven much in the five years prior to my purchasing it. I will NOT, however, pour Seafoam or any other additives/cleaners into any other part of the engine. This thing has 93K miles and runs damn good ... minus fuel economy.

Also, I've heard a lot of good and bad in regards to Lucas Injector Cleaner. Anyone have any experience with this product?

    All relevant info is appreciated.

yeah,i've heard lucas is good, but after using it several times,i think it's just a snake-oil kind of thing. does give out a real strong odor out the pipes though.
as for seafoam,i've never tried it,but then you hear of guys ruining their motors and some people have good luck with it.

My S10 used to ping badly on heavy acceleration. It did it when I got it at 80k and continued doing this up till about 4 years ago. I ran a half can of Seafoam through the brake booster line, and it hasn't pinged at all since. Thats honestly the only thing I've ever had it work on. Never saw any difference on the Lincoln, no smoke show, nothing interesting.

I find it hard to believe anyone's ever ruined a motor with seafoam.. if the trucks been sitting for that long it sure wouldn't hurt anything to use it in the gas tank.

I've used seafoam more times than i can count with different results on each vehicle i've used it on, nothing has ever been negative..

If you pour it in through a vacuum line it can hydrolock the engine. However, that's the fault of the user, not of the snake oil.

I used half a can of Seafoam on my truck, which was having a dieseling issue probably due to carbon build up. It did it less often after that, but still did it, so I ran another half a can through and it stopped it.

I did it on my red car a couple years ago. Minimal smoke, no differences (it ran fine to begin with). It was basically because me and some friends were bored one afternoon.

However, I really don't need any help cleaning the carbon out of the engine in any vehicle that I drive regularly.

I have heard of more than one person hydrolocking an engine with Seafoam.

I put a can of seafoam in the gastank and one down the throttle body of my truck. It poured out smoke like a diesel as i'm sure there was a good bit of carbon build up at 190K miles. About 10K miles later it still runs perfect with no issues besides the common leaky t-stat gasket. Did the same thing in my Mustang and van, smoke like no other and smoother running afterward.

My Metro on the other hand was no affected by it, in the gastank or the TB (it stalled very easy when poured in the TB, had to open the throttle halfway and pour as slowly as possible). It needs a new fuel filter, that could be why it didn't respond to the seafoam in the tank but the 3 cylinders are very rough running motors even straight from the factory, terrible motors I wish I had the 1.3L 4 cylinder which is also anemic but has a good bit more power and is a lot smoother.

Used lucas in the '00 Si (1.6/dohc/vtec), 95 Mustang (3.8), 89 probe (2.2 n/a), 89 CV and my current Merc, no improvement whatsoever. Actually, I got slightly worse mileage with the Civic when I used it (tried several times, same result).
Used STP fuel system cleaner (silver bottle) in everything I've owned, helped with the Si (@ 140k miles) and '89 Integra (1.6/dohc @ 230k miles). Didn't do anything noticeable with the other cars.

Seafoam is great for cleaning IAT's and O2 sensors (soak em overnight).

I used sea foam in my 92 when I first got it. Never noticed any difference.

Iv used Seafoam and Lucuas. My car problems started right after i started useing seafoam the first time in it. Might of just been a coincidence.

I LOVE Lucas oil treatment in worn out motors though.

To me th best results for fual cleaner was that chevron techron stuff in a black jug.
It makes for a ruff ride while ure useing it. but. you can tell afterward. MPG wise.

really cheveron techron?! that garbage gas killed my gas milage! 167 miles per tank of gas for a long while. and thats with a tune up. when i first got the car it was averaging 250 miles per tank of gas. now im getting 233 miles per tank of gas.....

ive tried seafoam, it does good.
I use lucas injector, oil, and tranny fluids all the time. The both cars run alot smoother.

Not the gas, the cleaner lol.

Im amazed Chevron gas gave you bad millage though. Its allways helped mine.

I used to run seafoam but now I just run water through the booster line. I've been able to clear the EGR code off of the 95 GM that way. The exhaust smells brand new after I'm done as well. Get the engine hot, use a vacuum pump or manifold vacuum line to open the EGR valve and suck water through the line while revving up the engine. It will clean some shit out.
