    Tranny question.

Not exactly a vic but the tranny in my truck. 300 with a c6 tranny. It has 38's on the back with 3.08 gears. It feels like it engages too slow it acts like its slipping or might have a high stall converter. The tranny came out of an e 250 with a 300 in it. Probably been sitting a while. I dont think its slipping cause if you nail it, it will spin those 38's quite easy on the pavement. My dad said the seals may be dry. What do yall think. And i have checked the fluid.

When i put it in the truck so about 20 miles ago is when the fluid was changed. When i got the truck it had a burnt up aod. My buddy told me i could have this c6 if i pulled it. So i did but i have no idea how long it sat before i go it. But it did have fluid in it when i pulled it.

Probably sludged up. Make sure the modulator's vacuum line is good, and the modulator itself is OK. Tranny in my Dakota did that and i ran some TransMedic or TransX or some shit like that through it. Within about 20 miles it was shifting like new again, so it might be worth a shot. Seafoam also has a transmission additive.

And you say the fluid was changed when you put it in. Did you change the filter too? If not, drop the pan and change it.

I didnt change the filter. I will one day but since it never leaves the yard its not to urgent. The fluid is clean in it though, Im using it tommorow to yank out some stumps. the tranny is tight enought to break a 1/2" nylon rope so if it is slipping it aint that bad.

Mostly a clogged filter will just make the truck shift like old people fuck: slow and sloppy. Only problem, the geriatric copulation shift system means the clutches aren't fully engaged for a longer period of time between gears so they are wearing at a faster rate.

It shifts good going down the road just slow to engage going into first. Reverse works great. Ill probably just take it and have it rebuilt when it wuits moving the truck. i dont think itll cost more than 300 bux.

This may be apples and oranges here, but...

I had a 69 skylark that took 4 or 5 seconds to engage in reverse. I mentioned it to the former owners when they asked how the car was doing. Their comment was "I wouldn't worry about that, it was doing it when dad bought it" (their dad had been gone for over a decade at that point and had driven it roughly 150,000 miles while he was alive, LOL)

It did take some planning at times, but all in all it didn't hurt the car a bit.

Well i wouldnt be so worried about the delayed engagement if it went in harder. My sisters will give you whiplash but she has way smaller tires.
