    Charging system not working?

I have been driving my merc around and when I turn it off and go to start it up again it has a hard time or it wont start. I has a new alternator, battery and voltage regulator. The regulator also gets hot. I have a felling my alternator never kicks in and I end up running on the battery only. Are the any wires or fuses I can check? I am having the alternator tested tommarow. This really sucks any help would be greatly appreciated.

After it cools off, all of a sudden it starts again. Then after I shut it down and go to restart it it is dead again

If it cranks really hard, it could possibly be the starter getting heat soaked or the cable to the starter failing. Chevy engines had problems with starter heat soak, but with a Ford I'd be more likely to suspect the cable. Its cheaper anyway.

As in dead I mean when I go to start it, the starter barely has enough power to crank the engine over.

Pull and clean all the connections, but you might be needing a starter. Timing way out of whack will cause things to crank funny when hot too.

check the battery cables, it may be the starter going south engine being too hot, or the timing out like gadget just said

Its gotta be the starter, now I am convinced. The battery obviously has enough juice. My lights, stereo, windows ect.. all work with no problems or sign of low power. If I get paid I am going to pick one up tommarow.

The timing fixed it I think, it was about 3-4 degrees off. I got the starter, alternator, and voltage regulator tested and to my suprise they all check out. I am going to drive it around to see if any problem arises. Thanks

Well I just got back from being stranded at the shopping plaza. :cuss:
Just when I thought my car was fine, its not. my delemma, Alternator, starter, and voltage regulator are ok, the timming is set to 10 degrees BDTC. My car would not start at the shopping plaza, It is like the alternator doesnt want to work. I dont know if it is because its hot, like 90+ or what. Some body please help.
OH and it is stalling, and sputtering too.

Bring it into AutoZone and get it tested for free.........check it for a draw when the motor is off.

I had a battery to test good at autozone but one of the cells were bad and the car would not start when it got real cold

Replace the cable from battery to relay, from relay to starter, and the ground cable. If that doesn't help, put a new starter on it. Starters might spin fine out of the car, but when hot it might be tired and not have enough oomph to crank over the engine.
