    Has anyone had this happen?

I have been getting a noise lately and traced it down to u-joints a little loose. When i went to replace them, i took the clips off and literally pulled some of the caps out by hand. On the new ones all but maybe two pushed in with out any pressure and the noise is worse now.

I know i'm going to have to replace the shaft and flanges but i was just wondering if that has happened to any one else before?

Also what would be the best place to get this stuff? A boneyard or just get some new parts made\bought?

When you replaced the ujoints did you lose the needle bearings in them? The caps should slide on and of easily, because they are meant to spin.

      Dave,
I take it that he meant that they pushed in to the DRIVESHAFT, and YOKES by hand. They are NOT supposed to do that! Yes, the shaft, and yokes should be replaced. Good call. DO NOT drive any further, until you replace that shaft. You should be fine with a junkyard shaft.

It is difficult to find good driveshafts in a junkyard, most are bent. Just choose wisely.. and check to see if they are bent or have marks on them.

I sort of have a spare driveshaft, but that may or may not do you any good. Probably pricy to ship.

Yeah, it's kinda hard to think about, when we're just trying to keep ahead of the rust. LOL

if the bearing caps push in by hand, its shot. Those should be a tight press fit. If you can't find a good one in the junkyard, a driveshaft shop may be able to repair it or replace the ends for you. They could likely take the ends off a bent driveshaft and use them to repair yours as well.

This is true, but he'll still need the stock front and rear yokes. As long as those are OK, then its on.

Yea I replaced mine too myself. The squeak is that the joints are giving out get new ones and rent a bearing press from murrays or autozone. With the press they should easily come out also buy extra grease to add a little more to them cause they just have a little add some to keep the needle bearings in place. Just press them in with press clean the groove of the snapring then put one in the the other DONT FORGET TO MARK THE SHAFT FROM THE POSITION it was in. After u replace both joints it should stop if u did everything right. Or ur driveshaft if fucked up then

Junkyard is the usual source. Just be sure its not bent. Lots of times they pick the cars up with big forklifts and trash the driveshafts.
