    Cam and valve spring selection?

As some of u know, I just parted out a 86 Vic. It is a roller cam. My plan for the motor is a basic rebuild, with a bigger cam. And drop it in my 83. I'm NOT running fuel injection. I'm going to put my 500 cfm 2 barrel on it. Here is the cam I decided I want.

It shows a idle-6200 rpm range. But I can't find what valve springs and retainers to use with it. Any ideas? I'm also going to be putting 3.73s in my rear axle, and a 2000 rpm stall converter in the trans, along with a governor recalibration kit.
Does that sound like a good combo at all?

X-cam has way too much lift for stock cast CV pistons.
after market pistons would be a must.... they may or may not require fly cutting for proper piston/valve clearence.

Personally, I would go with a B cam, 2400-2600 stall converter and 3.73 gear.
B cam works much better with carbs and has a wicked idle.

        Ur talkin about this one?

I don't know if I like the 3000-6000 rpm range. I was hoping for a wider span. I have no idea how much lift I can run on a stock 302 pistons. The only motor I have built is my 351M in my pickup, and that has .536 lift on the intake and .562 on the exhaust. With stock style pistons, so I was hoping I could get close to that with this Vic motor. But if I have to tone it down a bit, I guess I will. Lol.

rule of thumb is .500" lift is the limit with the stock, cast CV pistons.

FRPP catalog/website is a better source for cam info than the Summit website

Looks like i get to choose between the B or the E without changing pistons... the B has more duration, but the E has more lift......
Have still yet to find some springs though.....I'm guessing the stock springs will bind with that much lift..

get the b-cam and put 1.7 rockers on it, best of both worlds

that would bump it up to .510 lift... not good...

stock E6 heads really suck... its not the ports, its the shape of the combustion chamber.
they are odd ball heads too... springs, valves and retainers are all different from the E5/E7/GT-40 style heads.

honestly, it would be much better doing a simple HO conversion (HO cam, E7 heads)
the parts and cheap (sometimes Free) and plentiful.
you can run 1.7 rockers to get more lift from the HO cam.
