yeah... those are the springs I plan on getting. its funny, the application information says the springs are good for .520" of lift, but if you read the instructions (PDF file) it says they are good for .542" of lift.
dont know much about the 84 heads, they would be better than 86 E6 heads though.
make sure they dont have a huge combustion chambers, that will kill your compression with the stock pistons.

lol i never noticed that, It doesnt matter to me if they can handle that much, as long as its over the .500 lift that you say i can run with factory pistons is all i need...
I still have to check the other heads i have at home to see what year they are.... but the motor they are on was a strong one when it was in my old bronco.. i ran it up to 6,000 rpm rather often.. it needs a rebuild though.. I didnt build that motor though...
you can advance the cam 4 degrees and move the power band lower in the RPM range.
for the B cam FRPP catalog says "Fair idle quality, Good low end torque, significant top end power above 4000 RPM.
B cam makes peaks torque at 3100 and peak HP at 5100

2400-2600 stall converter would work much better.
3.73 gear would be optimal.

I guess i could run a 2400-2600 stall, i just want to keep the lockup in 3rd and OD. But i do want a 3.73 gear ratio for sure, no matter what i do to the motor.
have u run the B cam before?
Well, the thing you have to remember with stock iron heads from the '80s is that you're not dealing with good heads and bad heads. You're dealing with crappy heads, and slightly less crappy heads. The E0 castings, while I'm not really familiar with them in particular, are going to be low compression as you say. The E6s, though, if you look at the shape of the combustion chamber, badly shroud the valves, which hurts gas flow into and out of the cylinder. Compression is higher, but flow is lower.
If you can find a set for a half decent price, the E7TE castings would be your best (i.e., least crappy) choice for stock '80s heads. If your budget allows you to get GT40 or GT40P heads, so much the better. Those actually flow quite decently as stock stuff goes - most people agree that they're the best flowing stock heads Ford ever put on the small block.

Ok I never thought of the valves being shrouded. I don't have a lot of spair cash for this project , so I was hoping to use what I had layin around for the majority of the parts. Maybe I'll have to look around to see what some locals have for sale cheap. I'm really glad I asked about this. I'm more in the dark on these 302s than I thought. Thanks again guys.
But when it comes to the "C" and "M" heads, I know the good and bad. Hell I even kknow how to mod them to fit on a"W".
If it's a cash-strapped project, why not lay off the aftermarket other stuff, score a stock HO cam for near free, and spend a little money where it'll really count? Decent heads are one of the most important parts of your build, and you're certainly not going to crutch a cruddy head by putting in a huge cam and Victor intake!
Those E0 heads would actually be an improvement over the E6s. Compression is pretty low with E6 heads anyway (69cc?), but some previous heads like the D8 through E5 are similar to E7s but with somewhat larger chambers.
........ sooo ..... what all parts do you actually have sitting around, and what are you contemplating spending money on?
Well I have the 86 roller engine, complete. a 80 long block bored 40 over with who knows what cam.., the 84 thats in my car. A 73 2 barrel intake that I blocked off the egr ports. also blocking off the exhaust cross over tube.
I want to buy a better cam, i wanted new because i dont like used cams, but i guess a roller cam cant really go bad unless a lifter gets fucked up. I have all the gaskets, and seals. I wanted a new converter.. I was basically wanting to put new bearings, rings, gaskets, seals, and a bigger cam in the 86 block and put my 500 cfm holley on it.. But I had no idea the heads where so crappy... I have been looking around local for some
better heads, but not alot available, or I'm looking in the wrong spots. lol
So the list for new stuff would be, Cam, valve springs, retainers, Timming chain, torque converter, and 2.5 inch exhaust.... (well that was the plan....)
I'd already forgotten about the torque converter discussion. Higher stall converters are expensive. Staying with a smaller cam allows you to run a cheaper converter in addition to getting you into your torque band immediately instead of having to wait till 3000rpm, only to have the heads restricting power on the top end.
No luck with GT40P heads, even? Here are a couple places to start ... would have to worry about shipping, though.
I would like a 2000 or 2500 stall at least. I havnt check any shops yet, I've just looked at the local online adds. Right now I'm tryin to get research done so I know what to look for and what not to do.
