Found a 5.0 out of a '94 Mustang today. It runs, well, and is a 100% complete engine for $750. Are there any benefits to this particular HO over any others, or is it basically the same thing?

It just so happens that the only 94-95 HO swapped Panther in the country (I think) is 10-15 minutes away from you HAHA!
It's a slightly stronger 5.0L (and I mean slightly 10-15hp more) but through some rating and measuring changes it is rated at less HP and tq (but I'm not going to bother with why that is until I meet you in person haha). If you don't use the intake, throttle body, and MAF sensor that go with that motor, then you negate the performance gains because that's where they all were made. The pistons are NOT forged like in the 87-93 HO engine, the 94-95 are Hyper pistons (and the 94 uses SAE pistons, where the 95 uses metric pistons, just ask how I found that out). Internals are otherwise the same, same cam, same heads, same block, same lower intake as well. The upper intake is different, but I don't believe it's anything better other than being much shorter in height, and NOT reversible like the older ones. The fuel rails on the 94-95 is newer as well, so it uses the same regulator as the 4.6L rail on the early 4.6L Mustangs. I believe I still have my old automatic ECU for that engine sitting around. (91-93 Courgar) The accessories are all in different places as well, so either you will end up taking the front timing cover and water pump off your engine, or you will have to do some slight modifications to almost all of the accessories, and fabrication for the reverse water pump (which I have the later of). It does results in a bit more working room in front of the engine. Ummm I guess that's about it.Last edited by Blaze86Vic; 09-14-2009, 07:01 PM.

Wow, that was a great deal of information. So in short, the engine is no more valuable than an older HO assuming it's going into a Panther, correct?

the computers used in the 94-95 stangs are notorious for being difficult to work with. apparently ford tuned them to be more emissions freindly. there are even tuners selling kits to use the 87-93 computers in those newer mustangs. other than that, they are pretty much the same.[URL="http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3358314"]

As for the ECU tuning thing, I don't know. I do have a programmable piggy back Diablo chip on mine, but I've never tuned it, and I don't even know what's on it (but it works!).

Other than the upper intake and timing cover, its really just about identical to the earlier HO. I would not pay premium coin for one, the 94-95 specific parts aren't really very useful to you anyway. 750 is also high for a used stock 302 IMO, unless its like brand new with extremely low miles.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I do, but I want to examine every possible option before I actually do anything. It's the way my mind works. I consider every possible outcome before I make a move. They way people are talking here, the Mountaineer motor should recieve new timing gears and chains, new valve springs, and a bunch of other stuff, which could add up to a pretty sizeable amount of money eventually. There might be a cheaper option out there.

valve spring kit is around 150
timing chain and gears are around 30 bucks
the oil filter adaptor is around 6 bucks
far cheaper than 750 which is alot of money for a 15 year old mustang engine

The SN95 engine needs basically all the same things the Explorer motor needs, and in stock form performs worse. Not an upgrade vs the Mountaineer motor and its not any significant cash savings.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I agree with everyone here man. I have the motor, but it was brand new out the wrapper when it was put in my car. If I were looking for an HO to swap into the Vic now, I'd avoid the 94-95 HO because of the Hyper pistons. and try and find a 96+ explorer engine with the GT40P heads and gt40 cast intake.

94-95's are less desireable in every way possible. I'm curious as to how blaze thinks they are "slightly stronger"
87-92 are the best powerwise and ease of swap ability..Give a man a fish and he will be fed for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will promptly forget that he once did not know, and proceed to call anyone who asks, a n00b and flame them on the boards for being stupid.

and doesn't your towny have incredibly low mileage?
prob cheaper to put the gt40p heads/gt40 intake/explorer cam on your original engine
my 89 vic is a ho converted lopo.......shortblock has about 185,000 miles on it now.....lots of power
