Did box town cars get different cats?

I was wondering. I know almost everything mechanical is interchangeable amongst box panthers. However, with the different dash design in a town car, I thought there might be a bit of difference in the firewall, and thus sightly different bends for the cats.

I strongly suspect that they are interchangeable, but I was wondering if anyone can verify it.

          Cool, thanks Mangs!

I was going to offer a set of mine to my friend with the 89 town car, but I wanted to make sure they fit correctly first.

Should be fine. Possible the H pipe is longer, or maybe its just the mufflers but something in there is different due to the extra wheelbase.

Wait, the mufflers are different? I sold one Town Car muffler and two tailpipes to 87Vicky and he said they worked great.

You can't go by part numbers, and that's because of the pipes I'm running on my car. The down pipes are definitely a little longer than vics or grand marqs. Even the town car H pipe fit in where the y pipe fit with no modifications to length or anything.

My idea that's going through my head right now is, there is a little length difference in each of the components, explaining the different part numbers. If all of the town car exhaust is run on a vic or grand marq, the length would be noticeable. If only bits and pieces are ran, like on my car, they will still work without modification.

This is slightly off topic, but there are only 3 cats on my Town Car. A large one on the passenger side, and two smaller ones on the drivers side. Why?

If I remember correctly, the aftermarket replacement is a single catalytic converter instead of two. Possibly someone replaced one side but not the other?

My 88 Town Car also just has a large on on the passenger side and two smaller ones on the driver's side. Coincidence?

If there are no signs of welding on the pipe, I'd guess the entire pipe assembly was changed out to the aftermarket single cat version. Either that, or someone found the earlier single cat version was cheaper and got that instead.

leave the converters alone if they aren't shot. They don't produce any significant restriction in the exhaust, especially on a stock motor.
