    AOD kickdown cable

Alright, hopefully this will be the last question I have as I am so close to getting this thing done I can practictly hear it. I went ahead and picked up a used Holley carb to put on top of the 351. I was out there tonight looking at it and hooking some other stuff up and I realized I need to figure out a way to hook up the kickdown cable. Again keep in mind the car was a EFI vehicle that I am swapping to carb. How have others that have done this made the kickdown work?

Get the TV cable (not a kickdown, technically) from a '90/'91 P72 351 car (carbed). I believe the cable is the same as the 302 cars, or else it is only slightly different.

Then you need a TCI, or Sonnax TV geometry corrector, specific to the Holley carb. Those can be found at Summit, or on Ebay.

You can also save about $15 over the Sonnax or TCI and get a TV corrector under the Summit brand. I saw 'em in one of their catalogs recently. Might have to e-mail customer support for the part numbers, though, as they don't seem to be at all integrated with their search feature.

Does the stock TV cable just connect to the corrector bracket using a stock TV bushing instead of the little pin thing that I used?

The stock cable has a pin that sticks up and pushes into a bushing on the throttle lever. I will try and post of a pic of what it looks like later.

Can I get the TV cable at autozone or something like that? I tried searching their site but could not find anything for tv or kickdown.

I know what a stock TV cable looks like, I was hoping to get Harry Potter here to cough up details on his install.

Good luck finding a stock replacement cable new .... have you tried NAPAonline or RockAuto? Actually, if all else fails, I should have one somewhere that might work for you .... I don't *think* I'll be needing it again ....

Probably a dealer only part, and this specific cable was used 1990 and 1991 on 351 cars only. Its not the EFI cable.

Thats what I was affraid of. Sounds like it is going to be a pita to get my hands on. UGH!! Just another road block holding up progress. The local pick a part does not have shit for carbed panthers.

Just checked both Napa and Rockauto and couldnt find it on either. 1987cp, what would you want for yours if you where to part with it?

Not much, probably $5 plus shipping will be more than plenty. Mine was from a 5.0 SEFI car, though, so if Thain is correct (and I strongly suspect he might be, as he kind of knows a lot!), it might not be of much help.

Sucks, because while the Lokar TV cable does work (I've used 2 of them), it's a somewhat less than elegant solution just because adjustements are somewhat cumbersome if you keep your stock throttle cable. Which reminds me, I was going to see if my local Ace doesn't have a wing bolt that fits the main adjustor doohickey on that thing.

Stock throttle cable is sitting in the trash can at the curb. Wouldnt hook up to the carb so I got an aftermaket "universal" one. Not really to worried about difficulty to make adjustments since once it is set I shouldnt really have to mess with it much.

Oh, okay .... is this aftermarket cable the same design as the Lokar model? Because if it is, you can make your life easy and get their bracket and TV cable and have it all match.

Question, though: Why wouldn't your stock throttle cable connect to the carb? I would think that even the cable from a SEFI car would work okay except for some configuration details.

Let me rephrase that, it wouldnt hook up to the junk vv carb. The end of the throttle cable was designed to snap onto a ball on the throttle linkage.

I am going to have to look up the Lokar cable. It is the "universal" cable autozone and places like that sell.

edit: Here is a link to the throttle cable I have http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...ndName=Spectre

That actually looks very similar to the Lokar cables. You should be able to very easily run that cable with Lokar's carb stud mounted throttle bracket and matching TV cable. You can double-check with Mr. Land Yacht on exactly which throttle bracket live happily alongside a Holley.

Yuppers, that'd be the items. Seems like there was a cheaper option in terms of a TV cable, but it's been a long time since I bought mine, so who knows. The stainless housings are awfully nice.

Funny, I'd done forgot that my bracket fits a Holley as well.

Yea I wish there was a cheaper option. Hopefully someone else will stop in and mention one.
