Did the exhaust guides have clips on them? Newer engines and the replacement guides had clips on the top to keep them from dropping. I think it was mainly the exhaust that was the problem but don't hold me to that.

You got it right, the clips came later in like late 1991, so I think mine don't have them. Also it was the exhaust valves because of the high volume of oil that pools in that area when the engine's running. Either way my machine shop guy said they were fine, and I'm selling the car to make $$ as soon as it runs again. Anabelle needs MAF conversion, rear axle swap, big brakes and front end rebuild....

i've fixed alot of smoking 3.0's
i used to pull the heads off, then a friend of my boss's would come over with the tool from chrysler and the clips, knock out any bad guides, press the good fallen guides up and use a tool to cut a groove in the guide to accept the clips......when i did the heads on my spirit, and moms lebaron, my machinist friend knurled the guides and pressed them in
another cheap fix is to use small block chevy umbrella seals......another friend of mine was doing this back in the day for $250........basically he would put air in the cyl, remove the spring, and slip a chevy valve seal over the valve......cheap and effective, lasted a few yrs, usually by the time they smoked again, the body was worn out.

Thats good info... My 92 Caravan smoked bad but was pretty worn out, this will come in handy on my 91 Voyager(Pickup) though as its smoking and has a noisy lifter at times. I need to get that fixed.
