    Hose Sizes?

So.......these cars are old.... and hoses dry-rot and/or get rock-hard.

Most of mine look decent, but I bet thier not.
I know my (low pressure) power steering hose needs to be replaced.

It would be a lot easier if I knew what size it was and picked some up.....
As opposed to pulling the old one off and bringing it to the parts store.
Which is where I need to go tomorrow.

So what are the common hose and line sizes on these cars?
And about how much would I want to keep on hand?
Especially would like to know on the PS hose.

    Thanks

I think the PS return line is 5/16, same as the trans cooler lines. EGR cooler hoses are 1/4" fuel line. In a pinch, I think its 3/4 heater hose that works for the longer line that comes up to the front of the manifold.

Most of the rest of the hoses are molded cooling system hoses, or in the case of the PS pressure line, specialty hoses with fittings on them.

I don't keep spares on hand. I replaced all that stuff a couple years ago because it was hard as a rock, and I figure I ought to be good at least another 15 years now.

Thanks, I guess I should have said I was all set on the molded hoses and such.
Just seems there are all these old lines and hoses that I always hear are hiding just out of site.....till they leak and draw attention to themselves.

yeah thats typical. Usually safer to just cut it so you don't risk snapping the tit off the pump and having to buy a new reservoir. Mine has a factory PS cooler, and all the lines were hard as a rock. They leaked around the factory crimps too. Sliced those off with a die grinder and clamped new lines on.

Wow, glad I don't have a PS cooler.
Funny thing, I just put a new PS pump on recently. I actually got that end off okay, it was the other end that just would not let go. Thought it might break that metal line....so out came the razor knife.

Anyhow........that's why I wanted to know the sizes of all these smaller hoses and vacuum lines. If I had had some 3/8's line when I did my PS pump I would have been able to do that line at the same time. I don't live near parts stores (or any stores for that matter) and I always seem to be doing stuff like this on sundays too........
