Well I went to pick the car up today, and found a few too many problems. When I first looked at it I was in a hurry, and didn't get to check it out thoroughly. This morning I drove the 45 minutes with cash in my pocket to check it out and bring it home. Unfortunately only one window worked, the engine was leaking oil BADLY and the the tranny fluid was full of black and shiny particles. So I drove it anyway, and the front end was all over the place and it shifted poorly, plus missed terribly. Not to mention the broken rear window which I already knew about.
Even with all that and the cosmetic damage, I was willing to deal with the guy. I offered him $250 for it on the spot,(would have given him $325) he had to call the owner and when he came back the guy said it was $400 (his origional asking price)and not a penney less. I wished him luck and left him my number.
Why is it I can't seem to find a drivable wagon for less than $1200 The only other ones I know of in the area are a very nice 87 MGM with a blown tranny for $800 and a badly beat up 85 CV for $1500.
I have been looking for over 2 years now, and I run across reasonably priced boxes almost daily. In all that time I have found 2 decently priced wagons close enough to go look at. (I regularly cover almost the whole central portion of Ky all the way up through columbus OH) I don't mind paying decent money for a car that runs good, but I am not going to put a lot of money into a car that will cost me more than the purchase price to make it drivable.
Any tips on one in the Ky/Oh region?
