    blown head gasket

so it happened i blew a head gasket. I have a set of e7's laying around that are already machined and ready for install but i wasnt finished collecting all the parts for an HO swap. I figure ill put these heads on my 91 crown vic since i have to take the heads off any way. was kind of wondering how much power i will get from this swap by itself. I will eventually be putting shorty headers and an ho intake on also but i think that will be the extent of it.

I have no idea how much power the head will give you alone but i must say that just installing a high output upper intake will do you little to no good because your stock egr spacer and throttle body is restricting air going into the upper plenum.

Hmm, lets see. the truck 302 makes 170hp and its basically the same as a lopo except with e7 heads and a different intake, so there ya go..

on a stock lopo? heads alone would probably get you about 10hp and you'd probably lose about 10-20ft/lbs torque..

are you sure its a blown head gasket? not very common for a head gasket to blow on these motors.

btw.. E7 heads, by themselves make quit a bit of difference.

+1 Very rare to blow a HG on a 302.

If you did blow a headgasket (like has been said, very rare) it's a good idea (and especially heads if you reuse them) to make sure they are straight and true. It is possible to warp the heads, causing future HG failures. BUT, you'd have to get the engine pretty damn hot in the first place.

they are blown got them off last night lots of cussing swearing and beer.
oil pan is full of water and you can see on the head gaskets that the middle cylinders were blown. I went ahead and put the new e7's on. probably will finish tonight.

Hope you didn't run it long with water in the oil. I've had bad results from doing that. Good luck, let us know how it runs with the new heads.

there was no water in the oil till the next day, after it sat overnight it all seeped in. I got the heads on and upper and lower manifold on last night so I will finish tonight. I am going to wait to put the ho upper and throttle body on until i can either buy or find a machine shop to bore out a lopo. for some reason it seems like a bored lopo is hard to come by in California but it is definitely in the works. I wanted to keep my gas mileage so i didn't want to go for a full ho conversion.
