    crank bearings

is there a way to change the crank bearings with out removing the motor from the car.i dont have a place or hoist to do this with the motor out or pay some one

You'd have a hell of a time doing it, but yes. You will need to get the motor jacked up high enough to get the oil pan out of there, which would usually need an engine crane to hook onto the lifting eyes. Honestly I wouldn't bother though. If its knocking to the point that it needs bearings, the crank probably ought to be pulled and checked, and will quite possibly need to be turned. The thrust bearing surface would also be suspect. Basically unless you're able to do a complete crank kit, I wouldn't even mess with it. Just turn the radio up and use thicker oil.

yes I know this thread is old, but I'd like to post some info that may be useful to someone in the future..

The info isn't car specific but it will give you the idea of how to change main bearings while the engine/crankshaft is still installed in the vehicle..

Good info, of course, but it assumes that you can get the pan off with the engine still in the car, and that's the major sticking point with these cars. Like Thain said, it is possible if you lift the engine up high enough, but it would have to go probably 4" at least before the pan cleared the engine cradle. I'm not sure that the transmission case wouldn't just hit the tunnel before you even got it that high.
