You know, I learned from Scott that Wal-Mart paint thinner will clean that intake up real nice

        I'll never tell... hehehehehehe!!!!

One of the main problems we had was trying to change out the engine mounts... Never could get the passenger side one out... it wasn't that bad, so we eneded up leaving it in the car... But the trans mount and the drivers side got changed out... Another problem was I painted the upper plenum, and the friggen paint WOULD NOT dry! The humidity was so high, that it was still tacky wet two hours later... So we elected to go ahead and close up for the night, instead of trying to mess the paint up trying to mount it... Also, nobody had the gasket that goes on the upper plenum where the intaka "Butty fly" is... had to order one... They sent a master gasket kit with the engine with about 100 gaskets in it.... But no upper intake gasket! So that is supposed to be in today...

I've always used a piece of 2x4 or even a bumper jack with bolts stuck into a couple of bellhousing holes. Not the best option if you have very nice framerails or want to clean and paint them with the engine out, however.

Scott claims you can actually get both mounts out with the suspension in place ... he seemed very confused when he realized I had recently removed my lower control arms with no intention of servicing the suspension at that time. :p

even a wire wheel to the intake will clean up most of the oxidation, thats what i did to the intake on my truck when i put it in, still looks fresh a year later.

won't that tend to leave a lot of scratch marks unless you use a fine brass wheel?

I second that. And i once got a wire wheel stuck in my pants while attached to drill. It happened twice.

The swap is coming along great. It must be awesome to ride around in a 20+ year old car that feels like new.

Pretty sure a cast intake isn't going to get scratch marks on it since they're generally pretty rough to begin with, unless you have one of them fancy schmancy more-money-than-brains mirror finish intakes.

Oh, and if the wire brush is getting caught in your pants, your pants are too loose. :p

Wish i had a pic of the truck intake to show how decent it came out. Didnt really leave any scratch marks that i can see. Might be due to the fact i was using an old worn out wire wheel that wasnt really that rigid, so it sort of "conformed" to the shape of the intake a little more smoothly. Looks hella lot better than alum oxidization

I got my big knotted wire wheel on my 4-1/2" electric angle grinder caught in my shirt one day. I was grateful it got tangled in my shirt and not my oversized gut.

Might have successfully removed the shirt if it'd been a name-brand angle grinder.

Yeah, those dumb Chinese angle grinders aren't even good for clothing removal...

Both my hands have nice scars from getting caught by an angle grinder, with 9" discs on them. Welding gloves don't slow them down any.
