    tranny not shifting

On a friends 89 vic, sometimes it won't shift out of 1st gear. The tranny fluid is full and bright red, and has no funny burnt smell to it. The TV bushing is intact and installed. The car has 114K miles on it and I'm wondering if it needs the TV pressure turned up to make it shift again. Any ideas?

He's actually coming up next week to fix Anabelle's transmission and install a shift kit. This is a friend of mine with an 89 crown vic thats doing this, kinda sucks because I just put in a 3G alternator for him.

If your tranny isn't shifting, then maybe you should teach him/her where the shifter is. Duh.

I think he means to say this is a different friend with a trans problem, not 88grandmarq who is going to be doing work on his transmission.

No shifting out of first could be too much pressure. See if the lever on the side of the trans moves with the throttle. COuld be it somehow got jammed and its stuck at full pressure.

Right gadget. I'll check it out, its wierd because it was working fine when I drove it and it shifted into OD at 45, and I never felt it shift hard. Wierd.

It could be intermittantly jamming or something. Dunno.

got to see this car in person today.

the transmission fluid was over full and dark red.
we drained the converter and filled it with fresh fluid, then bumped up the TV pressure a bit.

seems to drive and shift much better.
